30th July 2016 (Nyamilepedia) —– The Relief Organization for South Sudan (ROSS) and National Committee for Humanitarian Affairs, which is the humanitarian wing of SPLM/A-IO is delighted to send our warmest appreciation to the European Commission (EC) for announcing additional €40 million for emergency humanitarian assistance for the people affected by the crisis in South Sudan. From our knowledge the EC had already invested a large sum of money to support a number of emergency and recovery programmes in the Country.

While announcing the release of the fund, Christos Stylianides, Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management said that the Commission was extremely concerned about the ever-growing humanitarian needs and therefore decided to stand by the people caught up in the conflict in the young nation especially following the recent clashes which has worsened the already worrying situation.

As stated in the communiqué from EC Headquarters, the fund is intended to facilitate emergency aid and address the overall deteriorating humanitarian situation in our country by providing crucial supplies such as food and nutrition, water and sanitation, protection and healthcare.

As humanitarian coordinating agency of SPLM/A-IO and a partner in the Transitional Government of National Unity, we welcome the generosity and support from EC and hope that the fund will be properly used by humanitarian implementing partners to achieve its objective of saving lives of the most vulnerable. The SPLM/A-IO leadership and entire TGoNU have repeatedly assured the people of South Sudan, donors and aid agencies of their commitment to grant unhindered and safe humanitarian access to those in need.

ROSS through its field offices is working tirelessly to ensure that challenges affecting aid agencies are addressed. These include security and safety of aids workers, properties and supplies. We will keep engaging with our partners and our counterpart, Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) with an aim to reduce teething problems and begin to look forward for the implementation of Chapter three of the Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (ARCSS).

Last but not least, We also want to appeal to our partners and donors to consider supporting and prioritizing bottom-up peace building initiative that is geared towards creating community awareness on the benefits of ARCSS so that communities can understand and participate in the peace implementation process and set peaceful atmosphere for delivery of humanitarian services.

Thank you,

Hon. Gatwech Peter Kulang
