February 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudanese holdout rebel group claimed on Saturday that they have repulsed a government offensive meant to capture opposition strongholds in some parts of Central Equatoria region.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) said over the weekend that it is dismayed at reports of military confrontations between opposition and government forces in the Equatoria region.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Suba Samuel Manase, the official spokesman of the holdout opposition National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo, said they absorbed a government offensive against their positions in Yei River state.

“NAS gallant forces managed to absorb the first phase of Mathiang Anyoor Militia attacks in the course of last five (5) days in Yei River State,” Samuel said in the statement also extended to the Nyamilepedia.

Manase further said their troops repulsed government troops who occupied Senema village near the border with the Democratic of Congo on Friday. He further accused the army of looting villagers while they were heading to their base in Kojiko.

“The enemy forces are now contained by NAS on the main roads and all the supply lines blocked. Generally, since the start of this incursion, the (SSPDF) killed nine (9) civilians. NAS sustained one martyr and five (5) wounded,” he added.
