Prominent Gender Activist calls for an end to Gender-Based Violence in South Sudan

Nov 25th, 2018 (Nyamilepedia) — Gender Activist and Executive Director of Crown the Women, Riya William Yuyada calls for an end to gender-based violence in South Sudan.

Prominent Gender Activist calls for an immediate ends to gender-based violence in South Sudan. 

The remark came shortly as the international campaign, known as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence commenced on the  25th of November.

She also emphasised that the campaign against gender-based violence shouldn’t just stop as an on-and-off event that ends within 16 days, but it should be a continued campaign that should be done on a regular basis.

“It shouldn’t be 16 days of activism against violence against women but every day should be a day of activism to end violence against us” said Riya William Yuyada, and added that, widespread violence committed against vulnerable women takes place every day, “We feel and see violence every day against us” said Gender Activist Riya Yuyada in a statement posted on her official social media account.  

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign observed every year worldwide, and it’s aimed at ending violence against women and girls.

The campaign kicks off on an annual basis, starting from 25 November, followed by the marking of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to Human Rights Day, held on December 10, a day in which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Riya William Yuyada is South Sudan’s prominent Gender and Peace Activist, who’s a deep passion for promoting peace and ending violence against vulnerable women in the world’s youngest.
