Dec 17, 2015 (Nyamilepedia)—The Nuer Community in the Republic of Uganda, under the leadership of Mr. Nyoat Beliu Babouth, has marked the 2nd anniversary of Dec.15. 2013 Juba Nuer genocide which was orchestrated by President Salva Kiir and his tribal militia, the Mathiang Anyor.
Innocent and unarmed Nuer Civil populations were brutally murdered in their hundreds in house to house search because of their ethnic background. From Dec. 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20, the Nuer population which include children, elderly people, women and unarmed youth were killed, forced to eat the rotten flesh of their dead and killed afterward in South Sudan Capital, Juba, following a fabricated Coup d’etate, alleged to have been plotted by the former South Sudanese Vice President, Dr.Riek Machar Teny.
After escaping the assassination attempt, Dr. Riek dismissed the Coup allegations and immediately formed an armed opposition, the SPLM/A-IO.
The coup allegations were also dismissed by recently published Africa Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan Conflict which as well acknowledged the ethnic cleansing on the Nuer population in Juba as a state policy carried out by the Republican Guards and president Kiir’s armed tribal militia, infamously known as Mathiang Anyor.
On 16/12/2015, at the Hotel Equatoria Kampala, Nuer Community members who clad in black attires from different districts in Uganda converged to commemorate the lives of their fallen brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends and colleagues who were murdered in cold blood by the Government, the only institution that would have protected them.
With head count of exactly 602 persons in attendance, majority of them during the commemoration service could not help drowning into tears especially the mothers and elderly women having recalled the brutal death of their beloved ones. It was a painful day that the Nuer Community worldwide shall forever never forget.
The commemoration was graced by Hon. Former Minister for Sport, Youth and Culture who is also the Inspector General for SPLM/A-IO, General Makuac Teny delegated from Pagak, South Sudan, the armed Opposition Headquarters as the Chief Guest.
The Nuer Community in Uganda Chairman Mr. Nyoat Biliu Babouth thanked the Nuer community members in Kampala Uganda for having fund raised to make the commemoration service happened. He further urged them to keep up the unity of purpose and never to pay any attentions to any element whose agenda is to divide and hurt the togetherness of Nuer in these difficult moments. Mr. Nyoat Beliu before he could invite the patron of the day Ustaz. Nhial Hoth acknowledged and appreciated the entire leadership of SPLM/A-IO for rendering moral support and comforting the families of horrible Juba killing victims and importantly for honoring the invitation to the commemoration service.
Clad in black attire too, General Makuac Teny only had very few words to the mourning gathering. He urged the Nuer Community to forgive but Never forget what happened in Juba particularly and in other Nuer areas where similar callous killing, crime against humanity especially in greater upper were committed by Salva Kiir’s tribal regime.
He also urged the community which was in deep sorrow to embrace and support the peace however, cautioning them that “Juba is still a dangerous Zone” and is never a safe haven to run to yet.
He began his brief remarks by observing a short moment of silent as a tribute to the Juba Nuer Massacres victims and then initiating candles lighting.
General Makuac Teny concluded by thanking Nuer Community in Uganda for having stood firm and strong with SPLM/A-IO right from the beginning until this very moment and assured the community that their unconditional support to the movement shall always be acknowledged in good faith.
