MEMBERS OF SOUTH SUDAN YOUTH FORUM IN UGANDA ON NATIONAL DIALOGUE (SSYFUND) AGREED TO HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE

PRESS RELEASE,

August 4th, 2017(Nyamilepedia) ——- SSYFUND is an independent and respected South Sudanese youth organization in Uganda have today (04/08/2017) agreed that they will hold a press conference on August 09, 2017. The time and venue will be communicated next week on Monday 07, 2017.

The leadership of South Sudanese women, communities and other individual South Sudanese in Uganda are invited to attend the press conference.

On that note, SSYFUND leadership will also invite all media houses in Uganda, and if possible, South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC) to cover the event.

The purpose of the press conference is to bring to the attentions of South Sudanese Government, the SPLM-IO and other armed oppositions that they have a duty not only under South Sudanese law, regional human rights law but also under the international human rights law to protect civilians who are not taking part in the conflict. Thus, the law imposes a duty on all the parties to the conflict in South Sudan to avoid deliberately targeting unarmed civilians.

Therefore, our press conference will serve as a reminder to all parties to the conflict in South Sudan and in particular the armed oppositions who have been targeting civilians along Nimule-Juba Road to stop with immediate effect their actions of targeting unarmed civilians since they are not legitimate target of attacks.

Apart from the above, the press conference will further remind the international community members that they have a role to play role in protecting civilians in South Sudan.

Finally and importantly, the press conference will help to show that South Sudanese youth have taken central stage to monitor all parties to the conflict and other interest groups or stakeholders on what they are doing to protect civilians and to bring peace in South Sudan.
