Liech Community in Kenya Calls on Unity State Governor to resign

March 5, 2022 — Breaking its silence, the Liech Community Association in Kenya, calls on the governor of Unity State, Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil, to resign from governorship for failing to curve insecurity and other catastrophes that are affecting the oil-rich Unity state.

In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia, Dak Buoth Riek-Gaak, the Chairman of Liech Community Association in Kenya (LCAK), reiterates that massive killing of innocent Nuer civilians and unending insecurity in Unity State are a major point of concern, not only to his leadership but the entire Liech community.

“Your Excellency, in the wake of massive killing of innocent Nuer civilians and the unending insecurity and rampant Human Rights abuses in Unity State particularly in the counties of Mayendit, Leer and Koch, we call on you to take the necessary actions. These scaring incidents of ‘violence against civilians’ are defeating your government’s calls for the IDPs and the refugees to return home and rebuild their lives.” Dak said.

Dak reminds the governor of how his leadership in Kenya stood in solidarity with him but the suffering of their people can no longer allow them to support the governor when he is proving incompetence.

“Your Excellency, the Liech Community Association in Kenya (LCAK) is on public record for expressing its utmost support for your administration soon after the decree of your appointment as the Governor was made by the President. We then stated our desire to all and sundry to support your leadership in the hope that you will listen and work closely with the relevance stakeholders to fix the recurring challenges facing our impoverished communities namely Bul, Dok, Haak, Jagei, Jikany, Leek and Nyuong.” Dak said.

“However, we hereby write to withdraw the same simply because our hopes were dash. It is shown by the conducts of your administration that you dislike dialogue among our warring clans.” He continued.

Should the governor decides to take bold decisions to fix the situation before its escalates any further, the Chairman of the Liech Community Association in Kenya recommends that the governor should suspend at least the three commissioners who have failed to curve insecurity in their counties.

“In this regard your Excellency, we ask categorically that you resign or take swift action by suspending the three commissioners of the aforementioned counties to pave way for an expeditious and transparent investigation as clearly pointed out by the embassies of the United States, Norway, British and TRIOKA in their letter today 1st March 2022. We cannot keep silence on the face of bloodshed, and you cannot sit and fold your hands as if nothing wrong had happened. Meanwhile, we strongly appeal on our resilient people to live harmoniously and shun violence within Unity State and its neighboring regions.”  Dak Buoth Riek-Gaak, Chairman of the Liech Community Association in Kenya (LCAK), concludes.
