KIDNAPPING OF THE SPOKESPERSON IN THE OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE SPLM/SPLA(IO) – CDE. JAMES GA’DET DAK

Nov 08, 2016(Nyamilepedia) ——– The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (in Opposition) makes the following statement regarding the recent kidnapping of the Spokesperson in the Office of the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) – Cde. James Ga’det Dak:

(a) The SPLM/SPLA(IO) condemn in the strongest terms the kidnapping of the Spokesperson in the Office of the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) – Cde. James Ga’det Dak from his residence in Nairobi, Kenya on 02/11/2016; and his subsequent illegal deportation to Juba, South Sudan.

(b) The SPLM/SPLA(IO) condemns in the strongest terms some few Kenyan Members of Parliament (and Aspiring MPs) who are colluding with the regime in Juba to kidnap the legitimate leadership of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) who fled to Nairobi after the July (2016) Conspiracy in Juba, which has been well documented by rights groups, who identify the Chief of Staff (Paul Malong) and the President (Salva Kiir) of the regime in Juba as the perpetrators; (see: United Nations: 19 Feb. (c) The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) has obtained leaked information from the security of the regime, regarding more names of people to be kidnapped from Nairobi and handed over to an unpopular regime, which even the African Union (AU) have documented extensively as killing its own citizens; (see: African Union: 15 Oct. (d) Based on this, the leadership of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) in Nairobi have been forced to evacuate or go into hiding for fear of illegal deportation;

(e) The Wanainchi (Citizens) of Kenya should not be misled by the political propaganda campaign being waged by criminal elements in the Government of Kenya who’s vested interests are against the national interests of the sisterly/brotherly people of Kenya and South Sudan;

(f) The Wanainchi of Kenya (who have been to South Sudan) know better than these Members of Parliament the challenges of South Sudan, as they have shared in the suffering of our people under the yoke of the regime in Juba; and the Wanainchi of Kenya are therefore, stakeholders in the fundamental change envisaged by the SPLM/SPLA(IO);

(g) The SPLM/SPLA(IO) is committed to pursuing a genuine peace negotiated in good faith, while reserving the natural right of self-defense in light of the continued belligerence of the regime, which has now become trans-boundary;

(h) The Leadership of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) call on the government of Kenya to investigate these alleged criminal elements, who have violated Article 2(5) of The Constitution of Kenya, which makes international treaties and conventions part of the Kenya’s Constitution;

(i) The Leadership of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) is working hard to ensure that this reckless act doesn’t escalate and have ordered all units in the field to protect Kenyans working in SPLM/SPLA(IO) liberated territories in South Sudan who are doing more for our people that their own government;

(j) The SPLM/SPLA(IO) is a reality that is here to stay and can’t be wished away and as Signatories to the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS), the leadership of the Movement calls on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the African Union (AU), Troika and the International Community in general to rescue the peace process by resuscitating the Agreement;

(k) The SPLM/SPLA(IO) calls on the Government of Kenya to discourage the kidnapping of the Movements Leaders and Civil Society Activists who have fled the brutality of the regime in Juba; and

(l) The SPLM/SPLA(IO) welcomes the various reports by rights groups, which all document the unceasing human rights violations of the regime in Juba, including the latest Amnesty International Report titled – SOUTH SUDAN: “WE DID NOT BELIEVE WE WOULD SURVIVE”: KILLINGS, RAPE AND LOOTING IN JUBA; which states in the Executive Summary:

It is long past time for the government to take real and effective steps to ensure that its forces cease violating international human rights and humanitarian law, permit humanitarian aid operations, and undertake prompt, effective and impartial investigations into past violations. And it is also time for the international community to ensure that it is not, by its actions, complicit in abuses in South Sudan.
