JMEC Chairman H.E Festus Mogae meets President Salva Kiir Mayardit in State House, roots for inclusive national political dialogue

Feb 22 2017(Nyamilepedia) —– THE Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Chairman H.E Festus Mogae has on Tuesday afternoon held discussions with President Salva Kiir Mayardit in State House, Juba.

After the closed-door meeting, H.E Mogae said, he emphasized the importance of the national dialogue initiative by the President, as a gateway to peaceful co-existence among warring communities.

“I thanked the President for his emphasis and intentions to implement the much-needed national dialogue which we expect all South Sudanese will take participate,” he said.

He also applauded the President for his visit to Yei early this month, saying such initiatives will help in cementing national healing, reconciliation and restore confidence among locals.

Speaking after the meeting on behalf of President Kiir, Minister in the Office of the President, Mayik Deng said the two had a mutual discussion towards inclusive political dialogue that is aimed at consolidating peace in the country.

Earlier on Mogae attended the opening of the second Transitional National Legislature (parliament) following an invitation by the speaker, Anthony Lino Makana.

President Salva Kiir opened the session, where he urged armed political groups engaged in fighting to join a national dialogue.

“I call upon our partners and those in opposition to cast any doubts aside as we genuinely seek to restore peace,” Kiir said during his address to parliament.
