Jan 30, 2017(Nyamilepedia) ——- Joining the African Union, United Nations and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) statement on South Sudan’s conflict, the European Union unambiguously calls for an all-inclusive Political Process and an active role for the African Union High Representative to ensure that South Sudan’s conflict is put to an end once and for all.

Unlike IGAD, AU and UN statement, which weakly calls for inclusivity in peace implementation while promising to support President Kiir’s unilateral national dialogue, the European Union strictly calls for “a process of political consultation” that is representative and satisfactory to the entire population of South Sudan.
“An immediate cessation of hostilities must be accompanied by a process of political consultation that is representative of, and trusted by, the entire population of South Sudan.” Reads part of EU statement.
EU is deeply concerned of South Sudan conflicts and warns that the people of South Sudan cannot be left to suffer any further.
“The organisations also expressed deep concern, which the EU shares, about the continuing spread of fighting and the risk of inter-communal violence escalating into mass atrocities, and the dire humanitarian situation in the country.” the statements continue.
“The population of South Sudan must be spared further suffering.” the statements adds.
The European Union made it clear that such a political process should be “initiated without delay and without obstacles” warning that “there are no shortcuts to full and fair representation.”
The organization stands ready to support the efforts to establish a process of political consultation and also to ensure that it is enhanced.
“The European Union stands ready both to support such an effort and further to strengthen and enhance international co-operation in support of the South Sudan peace process.” Reads part of EU statement.
