Acts of ethnic cleansing and unlawful conduct in Unity State target Equatorians
EPA condemns Renk Youth Association for unlawful conduct against Equatorians and humanitarian agenciesÂ
Press Release
Oct 28, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Equatoria Peoples’ Alliance (EPA) in Diaspora has learned with utter dismay about issuance of appalling and reprehensible threats and warnings lately in the media by Renk Youth Association ethnic community members in Upper Nile against Equatorians and other non-local staff and Equatorians employed by NGOs operating in the state.
The threats gave an ultimatum for non-local ethnic staff to vacate the state and cease employment there, and which forced and led Medair and other NGOs to repatriate their employees back to Juba and ceased operations in the state to avoid potential loss of lives as their premises were being attacked and burnt down on Thursday 22nd October 2020 by locals affiliated to Renk Youth Association.
EPA strongly condemns in no uncertain terms, the unruly and unlawful behaviour and conduct of those engaged in terrorist actions, issuing threats to lives of innocent civilians, and taking the law into their own hands to burn down the offices of NGOs who were there lawfully to deliver humanitarian services and assistance to the needy population of Unity state, assistance which the government did not render. In recent times, exact similar threats targeting members of Equatoria communities just because they are from another region, were issued by Dinka Youth in Bahr al Ghazal and which came to pass without condemnation, neither by Government leaders nor by the local authorities. The threats and terrorist actions are unlawful and infringe on the human rights of Equatorians in what’s now fast becoming a failed Republic of South Sudan.
EPA is deeply troubled by the continuing unabated rise of ethnic cleansing in Upper Nile and Bahr al Ghazal against Equatorians, a trend that has become deeply rooted in the country, engrained in the minds of Equatorians by Dinka Bor and Lou Nuer who a few months ago raised more than 10,000 ethnic armies and militias which combined to march on the Murle population in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) to commit genocide! To date the corrupt Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) regime in Juba issued no public condemnation, while heavily armed Dink Bor militia march with thousands of their cattle under political patronage and protection of their SSPDF [1] army Generals in Salva Kiir’s regime to invade and occupy Equatoria lands and terrorising innocent unarmed locals in Acholi Magwi and Nimule Ma’adi Lands to make way for their herds of cattle and IDPs[2].
The Republic of South Sudan under the illegitimate ruling hegemonic elites of SPLM[3] variants, has long ceased to exist for the preservation of the human and peoples’ rights of not just the Equatorians, Fertits and the Murles, but also those of all the sixty two (62) ethnic communities in the country. There are 2 million Equatorians who have been forced into refuge in Uganda and the neighbouring East African countries by Kiir’s war on Equatoria, which to date continues unabated.
The EPA appeals to all Equatorians for unity of purpose in the face of real existential threats and genocide in Equatoria, and for the preservation of their fundamental human and peoples’ rights to exercise political power and control over affairs of Equatoria peoples’ existence and governance in confederation of states based on Equatoria, Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), Upper Nile, and Bahr al Ghazal regions.
Vote of Thanks
EPA, in recognition of their role and condemnation of ethnic cleansing and hub of terrorism rearing its ugly head lately in Upper Nile’s Unity State, hereby calls upon the International Communities, the Heads of Mission of the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Germany, France, Norway, the Netherlands, Canada and European Union, the African Union, the IGAD Heads of States and all other NGOs, to rapidly take actions in protecting all Equatorians and other Nationals living in both Bahr Ghazal and Upper Nile whose lives are now at risk of ethnic cleansing.
EPA and the people of Equatoria are grateful for your condemnation and stance against acts of violence and barbarism of long bygone ages. EPA is equally grateful for your continuous support and for standing with the suffering people of South Sudan in defending the rights of the innocent people as stipulated in the UN Charter of Rights.
