Jan 15, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —- Former Leader of Minority parties in the National Parliament, Hon. Onyoti Adigo, declares himself as the new chairman of Democratic Change Party (DCP).

The leader of the Democratic Change party told Nyamilepedia Press in Juba that he has dismissed six senior members of his party.

According to Hon. Onyoti, the six members that are dismissed include the former deputy chairman, Hon. Mark Atem Awuol, former secretary general Deng Bior Deng, and former opposition chief whip in parliament, Hon. Andrew Okony Ayom. Others are Lydia Nhial Dok, Kerbino Pow and William Akech Aleu.

In a letter seen by Nyamilepedia press, Mr Onyoti says they have failed to attend several meetings of the party under Onyoti and when they were called for investigation the refused to show up.

However, Andrew Okony Ayom, one of the members dismissed, told Nyamilepedia that they do not recognize the decision of Onyoti Adigo.

“We don’t recognize him as the legitimate chair of the party and we did not even receive the letter he is talking about” Mr Okony said.

Mr. Onyoti took over the DC chairmanship after Dr Lam Akol resigned as the Chairman and the Minister of Agriculture in the Transitional Government of National Unity.

Despite that the position felt vacant After Dr. Lam fled Juba, Onyoti’s election was disputed by senior members of the party, including the then Secretary-General, Deng Bior.

Dr. Lam, who formed the party after defecting from the SPLM in 2009, defected from his own party in July last year and formed a rebel movement that is currently at a loggerhead with SPLM/SPLA-IO.  Although his military wing was crushed in the first week of 2017 in Upper Nile by the SPLA-IO, it is unpredictable if Dr. Lam will ever reclaim the DC Party.

Hon. Onyoti, a fellow Chollo, is one of the vocal members of parliament representing the minority communities. He has spoken against many of Kiir’s controversial decrees, however, without a political and a military force, his proposals may keep bouncing.
