Feb 2, 2022 (Nyamilepedia) — We can’t be a nation without sovereignty and no sovereignty without protection. Today, the entire Toposa Community carried out a massive demonstration against encroachment by Kenya into South Sudanese territory and false claims of “Nakodo” a village located 10km from Narus in Kapoeta County of Eastern Equatoria State. Here is part of their statements, “We will not stand idly by while our land is being taken,” said the spokesperson for the demonstration. “We demand that the South Sudanese government take immediate actions to safeguard our borders and defend our sovereignty”.
Since before and after Independence, South Sudan continue to lose it’s territories to neighbouring countries. There has been massive encroachment of neighbouring countries into South Sudanese territories. It has been ongoing with Kenya, Uganda, D.R. Congo, Sudan and Ethiopia. These countries are grabbing our lands and government in Juba remains silent to speak out on the matter. For instance, I have repeatedly seen many billboards being erected in Juba city holding South Sudan’s map without Toposa triangle known as, ” Elemi Triangle”. Where has it gone? Definitely to Kenya.
We urge our government to stop neighbouring countries from taking our lands. We either use Diplomacy or force. We’re a member state of the United Nations, African Union and IGAD. The ministers of foreign Affairs and International Cooperation together with East African Community Affairs must take up this matter seriously and table the matter in their platforms. The International Laws, Conventions and Treaties doesn’t allow any country to expand her borders into another Country. Countries are guided by Global Arbitration Standards, Methods and Mechanisms of International Land Disputes as well as colonial (Ancient) Demarcation of Borders, territories, airspaces and water ways.
Kenya Must Leave South Sudan. Elemi Triangle, Nadapal, Keybase, Narus, Nakodo and Northeast of Newsite are South Sudanese territories. They belong to Eastern Equatoria State, they are Toposa Lands not belong to Turkana. The government of Kenya is planning to build one of its large military bases in those areas.
