Opinion: Why Women’s Unity is Vital for the Realization of Gender Equality in South Sudan

By Betty Yom Mageer, Nairobi, Kenya

November 08, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — There’re massive challenges facing women in South Sudan. There’re many social, political and economic setbacks that women of South Sudan struggle daily to overcome in their lives. The social, economic and political problems need unity of women to overcome them in South Sudan. Women need unity among themselves in order to succeed in many things they desire in their lives. Moreover, without unity and collective efforts, there’ll be no success in all the undertakings they want to achieve in their lives.

For instance, women need unity for them to demand their inalienable rights in South Sudan. Women need unity for them to demand their liberties in South Sudan. Women need unity in order for them to demand equality in South Sudan. Women need unity in order for them to speak in one voice and demand an end to GBV in South Sudan. Women need unity in order for them to speak in one voice and demand an end to rape. Women need unity in order for them to speak up and condemn sexual harassment. Women need unity in order for them to speak up against early child-marriage in South Sudan.

Furthermore, women need unity in order for them to speak up against forced marriages. Additionally, Women need unity in order to speak up against sexism in South Sudan. Moreover, women need unity in order to demand equal employment opportunities. Women need unity in order to get equal job promotion in the labor market. Women need to wake up and see that their positions are been taken away while they’re sleeping.

Women need unity in order to get equal academic opportunities with men in South Sudan. Women need unity in order to achieve affirmative action in South Sudan. Furthermore, the motive I stress women’s unity is because disunity is destroying and weakening women to speak up and demand their rights and liberties. Disunity among women in South Sudan is making them unable to speak in one voice. Disunity is making womenbecome voiceless and powerless.

Disunity is making women to suffer in silent and unable to overcome pressing challenges that affect them on daily basis in South Sudan. Additionally, disunity has made some men in South Sudan took unfair advantage of women. The best solution to overcome many challenges facing women of South Sudan is for them to unite amongst themselves and start speaking out against setbacks affecting them. Women need unity in order to come up with an achievable and practicable plans to solve problems affecting them in South Sudan.

Moreover, Women need to abandon their meaningless disunity and embrace unity in order for them to succeed in their endeavors in South Sudan. Women need to support each them in order for them to excel in everything they want to achieve in their lives. Women need to know that, the more they dividethemselves and continue with their pointless disunity, the more their challenges will continue to increase and the more some men will continue to take unfair advantage of them mercilesslyin South Sudan.

Moreover, women need to know that their salvation will not fall from the sky without making an effort and to seriously unite among themselves and acknowledge that disunity is a recipe for failure to overcome huge challenges facing them in South Sudan. Women need to know that even almighty God help those who help themselves and if they’re unwilling to help themselves, then they need to know that it’ll also be difficult for God to help them.

Additionally, in the contemporary world we live in, a person need to demand his/her right and start working hard in order to achieve it. A right or freedom of an individual will not fall from heaven without hard-work in life and women need to know that in South Sudan. Women need to know that disunity, jealousy, arguments, indignation, gossiping and hostilities among themselves will never assist them to overcome huge challenges facing them in South Sudan. The more they continued to divide themselves, they more they’ll be taken advantage of by some people in South Sudan.

Additionally, I’m not encouraging rebellion among women to abandon their homes, families and husbands in South Sudan. I’m encouraging women to unite among themselves and to speak in one voice against many challenges facing them in South Sudan such as rape, GBV, gender discrimination, killing, early child-marriage, inequality in employment both in the public and private sectors and etc.

Finally, I want women to unite and demand their rights and liberties in our country. I want women to unite and demandequitable representation in the government. I need women to support their fellow women leaders and to end historical injustices and systemic oppression toward women in South Sudan. I need women to abandon their pointless disunity, animosities and hostilities and to think about an excellent way they’ll overcome deep-seated challenges facing them in our beloved South Sudan.
