Opinion: Why Angelina Teny’s appointment as defense minster should revoked

By Maley Kuol Wawudit.

Wife of South Sudan opposition leader, Angelina Jany Teny in an interview with the BBC HARDtalk’s Zeinab Badawi on 11 January 2017.

March 15th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) It is unbelievable that these hierarchical Generals are being binned by our revolutionary leadership at the outset of the post war.

The appointment of the Ministry of Defense should be revoked in order to recognize the military sacrifice made by our 1st Lt Gen Gatwech Dual Hoth, the current Chief of General Staff of the SPLA-IO.

Therefore, I write with a shame to reference that our Late Gen Gatdet Yak, Late Gen Tanginye, Gen Gathoth Gatkuoth, Gen Taban Deng Gai and many more former SPLM/A-IO military and political leaders who defected from our people’s movement had resentfully criticized the SPLM/A-IO as a family business or property.

As one of the advocate loyalists of our people’s movement, I previously disbelieved that my C-in-C Dr Riäk Machar Teny and his wife Angelina Nyajany Teny would eventually prove those defected leaders right and surprisingly prove us wrong for opposing their defected critics.

I however have least problem with Angelina Teny’s ministerial appointment since she is competent politician.

But I thought that the position of the First Vice Presidency which has being r-occupied by her husband Dr Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgön should be enough for their immediate as family.

If the term “equity” had been in place against the “nepotism” in our movement’s hierarchical leadership, then the ministry of defense should have been awarded to our other military or political liberators who sacrificed everything to walk the SPLM/A-IO during the bloodletting struggle to this semi-victory we witnessed today.

The political decline on equity in favour of nepotism from this prophetic and revolutionary family of Teny Dhurgön would trigger to an adjacent uncertainty toward themselves in South Sudan.

Furthermore, Madam Angelina Teny should show her good leadership quality within this role re-occupied by her husband instead of demanding an extra position within this R-TGONU.

Moreover, the Teny’s family, should be overweening for winning a semi victory of this war which communally brought by our revolutionary liberators in various fronts against the former regime.

On the other hand, Mrs. Teny should therefore know that Koch, Panyijiar, Rupkoni and Haak among other political municipalities’ military and political sacrifices have not been paid off yet and these collective sacrifices should not go in vain after war.

This is because we have several military and political comrades who therefore deserve this post as I stated above.

I fear that many loyalists of our people’s movement would resentfully regard Dr Machar’ s decision as a political nepotism by appointing his wife as a Minister of Defense while binning other top Generals who protected them and vulnerable others during the deleterious struggle.

Even Madam Angelina Teny should reject this appointment herself because it seemed to be a pure setup from the rival externalities who wanted to derail the most withstanding loyalists behind Dr Machar’s both current and future leadership.

Any resistance to our loyal opinions on this controversial appointment will prove right the public critics of Dr Machar’s family over the denounced nepotism and that will secure a strong leverage to their political opponents in the country.

Let Madam Angelina Teny socially and politically remains as the “Second First Lady” in our country.

It is both socially and politically unfortunate that Dr Riäk Machar Teny-Dhurgön has eventually proved me wrong along with my other loyal colleagues and proved his ruthless critics right over his leadership styles.

General Gatwech Dual and General Koang Chuol Ranley who committed themselves behind Dr Machar’s leadership after all other Senior Generals had left our people’s movement should not be segregated during these ministerial banquets. Segregating the movement’s military high commands from the service allocations or distributions would put their prophetic

The SPLM/A-IO loyalists should not waste thinking that Riek Machar would go to the election with Kiir in the next three years.

That will not happen. Neither Riek Machar nor Salva Kiir will campaign for the next three years national election anymore.

This is because both of them are currently in their 70s and no right minded South Sudanese will entertain their campaigns to lead the country again while they will be in their 80s.

What they are doing now is what the Naath called “Duŋ däkä piny” with the citizens of South Sudan.

I deeply regretted to describe my C-in-C Dr Riäk Machar as an egalitarian or a charismatic leader for all while he has some social and political irregularities in his leadership.

It is my surprise that the Nuer term “Ci-Thör-Köt” has already been used that way against the renowned sacrifice of these heroic veterans since the former regime has still in control of more than 50% of national power in our country.

Dr Riek Machar Teny and Angelina Nyajany Teny should step down from their current political platform of nepotism and shift it on a political platform of equity for the sake of togetherness of our people’s movement.

I humbly called upon my C-in-C Dr Riäk Machar Teny Dhurgön to revoke this unjustified or unpopular appointment of his wife to the ministry of Defense and reallocate this position to our current Chief of General Staff 1st Lt Gen Gatwech Dual Hoth.

Yours in Peace!
