July 08, 2022 — This serves to inform the people of South Sudan that we the sons and daughters of Bentiu are acutely aware of the grabbing mentality possessed by tribal Prof John Akec of the University of Juba. Akec has been against the people of Unity State all along because of Naam River dredging without giving possible rationale as to why the dredging is not okay to commence.
However, he never made noise when the people of Bentiu were greatly affected by the deludge of water (flood) which mixed with oil and poisoned almost 30% of the people and wiped out their properties and other belongings. We actually don’t have problem with his idea of stopping the dredging at hand, but he must cease and apologize for being tribal to the extent of abusing us on the social media. He also went further by pronouncing Naam River as Bhar El gazal river simply because the tribalism is preventing him from accepting the fact that Naam River is located in Central Bentiu with its sources from lake No.
It’s indeed to the best of my surprise that a man of 50 years who doubles as a professor is behaving in a childish manner without being changed by his education. I would like to advise both the leaders and the valuable citizens of South Sudan to cease from tribalism and nepotism simply because they have nothing to do with progress but total failure. The people of Unity State had no problem with you simply because we didn’t know that you are such a chicken brain professor.
The country has been strongly hit by a tribal war which destroyed the planned developmental framework that was proposed to elevate us from the previous 21 years of war and suffering, in which we can utilize this little peace and use it to build consensus and confidence among the South Sudanese tribes. It is what we normally call a legacy when a scholar tend to unite people of different languages towards a common interest and national character.
God was not wrong when he created our communities in one territory and we must adhere to God’s decision without being distracted by our cultural background and ways of life. It’s indeed true that tribalism makes people look at things differently and leave the naked truth behind in order to enrich our communities’ myths.
We should refrain from seeing ourselves as more important than the country we are in, by viewing others as second citizens. Moreover we are sharing the common senses with the same weaknesses that other normal human beings possess.
And finally, John Akech needs to breathe in and out on how his quotes and messages will be received by the public on his Facebook page where he promotes his village thoughts and mentality.
