Opinion: The lack of motivation and equitable use of time among South Sudanese

By Puoch Deng Luak,

Sept 2, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — As South Sudanese and the citizens of this young nation, we need to understand what is life and what motivates us to live, since life in the Republic of South Sudan is misunderstood as only breathing and moving on earth rather than having goals, objectives, programs, vision and mission. As a citizen of South Sudan, I am concerned about our lives and motivational activities.

Motivation is important for everyone. Motivation is important to live. We can’t live our daily life happily without motivation. Motivation is the presence of purpose and desire to achieve daily life, career, and business goals. Just an example, Motivation helps us to get up early and become productive.

It’s because we are not connected with the sense of motivation. The sense of motivation is the greatest thing that comes to our hearts and mind equally many times in a day. But most of us are failing to get it. The sense of motivation is the key to various achievements in our lives.

Motivation is important to manage daily life challenges, opportunities, and time efficiently to keep us moving forward and achieving goals.

In the Republic of South Sudan, people are valuing power more than time. Many of the South Sudanese failed to effectively and equitably manage time. They live their lives as if they will live for thousands of years to come. Many reluctantly spent much of their time in tea and shisha places talking about nothing and intoxicating their bodies with nicotine and other chemicals. Some of the BOSSES would tell you to come ,would set time for appointments which they will never respect themselves. They would ask you to come for a meeting at 8; 00 am. No one including the BOSSES would come at the agreed time. Some would even call and ask:” is the meeting started? ” while sipping their tea.  If you don’t respect the time yourself, how would you expect other people to follow the rules? how will we be productive in our businesses and/or workplaces?

Motivation helps to manage time and become more productive and beneficial for the organization. For example, personal, or official goals and dreams motivate us to wake up early in the morning. We do exercise and yoga to stay healthy and fit. It’s because we’re walking towards our goals.

As the citizens of this nation, we seem like we are acting without program, objectives and goals.  Many of us seem to lack motivation.  My fellow citizens, let us, put courage to educate our people to make use of time and plan for future generations

When we have motivation, we don’t waste our time. We communicate based on values and facts. We just focused on the goals that we need to achieve before the end of the day as South Sudan citizens.

I am requesting each of you to learn the culture of motivation. This is why motivated people are more productive and use time efficiently. Even if there seem to be more obstacles which prevent us from completing the set goal.

Mark Victor Hansen who an American author said, ’Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what? Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful. To harvest the fruits of motivation”.

In conclusion, our reluctance to do things on time reached further and failed us.  We messily failed to obey the implementation matrix which was already blessed and witnessed by world leaders. It was our only chance to end the suffering of our people. We’re messing up with this golden opportunity.

Before it’s too late, let utilize the little time we have and properly use it to our advantage.  As Mother Teresa who is Albanian citizen in Southeast Europe said and I quote, “life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it’’.
