By Capt Mabior Garang,
Fellow South Sudanese,
May 1, 2022 — In recent days some political interest groups have been circulating images of the air strips in Bentiu, Wau, Kuajok and Malakal on social media. We all know the baseline for development in our nascent Republic is shocking, to say the least. Most sectors are in a state of collapse, not just the airports -we know this!
To say we don’t have problems, would be mischief!
Yes we have problems! To deny this will not bring us closer to a solution. The same way the blame game will also not solve anything.
Compatriots,
If these dark forces were posting these pictures out of righteous indignation, the posts would be followed by concrete action, not political gossip. These pictures are being posted by Political Thugs whose objective is to incite our civil population to intercommunal violence, which is the political economy of the traditional elite in our land.
Before we can develop our other natural resources -of which our land has plenty- we must first develop the human resources, that is our civil population. Self-Determination is not a power struggle. It is to learn to produce and consume our own food as a strong economic foundation. To blame the plethora of South Sudan’s problems on a single individual without offering solutions, is but the continuation of the regime change agenda of the dark forces.
It is total mischief!
The problems facing us as peoples are bigger than one person, it is a problem with its roots in deep history. To understand the condition of our peoples today, it is important to concretely understand the traumatic experiences colonialism and slavery have had on our societies.
After 5000 years of slavery, colonialism and social engineering, what remains is complete dehumanisation and social collapse. We cannot just wake up on the eve of our hard-won political independence and start to compete in the world, especially after many generations of isolation from the rest of the human family.
Compatriots,
We must be vigilant against the malicious Propaganda of the dark forces in our land. They publish similar propaganda every year to confuse our civil population. Two years ago it was the dilapidated house of John Garang in Rumbek -as if he still lives there. Last year it was the state of New Site in Kapoeta. Their all time favourite is, who killed John Garang? All this incitement is intended by those who publish them to distract us and keep our liberation struggle divided and weak.
Compatriots,
The beautiful terminals the Jububeen traditional elite have become accustomed to out there in the modern world -with their VIP Lounges and Duty Free shopping- is more than our civil population is struggling for. The trauma of colonialism and slavery on our societies is still with us today.
It is our firm conviction in the National Conversation South Sudan (NCSS) that responsible citizens must be solution-oriented. Our peoples should not pay attention to leaders who point out problems without offering solutions. Especially if these leaders have previously been in government for close to a decade and were only appalled after they lost their political jobs.
Compatriots,
There is more value in producing tomatoes, than in malicious propaganda and political gossip. Growing tomatoes will help our peoples industrialize more than anything we are pretending to do with our suits and ties in Juba.
The Revitalized Parliament in Juba is a worse joke than the airstrips! The same opposition groups who took our country through seven years of immense suffering -in the name of reforms- are today sitting in Parliament House. What have they done to enact laws which will move our civil population into a modern economy? They have hardly passed any bills since they came to office. Not even proposed bills have been leaked to the public. All we have heard about is the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games Accounting Scandal.
The real reason things are in the state they are in is because we barely have any laws in our country. The bulk of the laws we have, have been inherited from the forgotten SPLA -not even SPLM. The laws governing any and everything in a given society are legislated through Parliaments. This Parliament of ‘National Unity’ -paralysed by the opposition’s regime change agenda- has hardly passed a single bill since they came to office. I don’t even know if some of the Honourable Members understand what a bill is and how it becomes law.
Today some so-called oposition leaders -after enjoying USD 100 Million for a good three years- want to show us some dilapidated air strips in Bentiu, Wau, Kuajok and Malakal. What may they hope the reaction of our naive civil population will be?
Compatriots,
Let us not allow these Political Thugs to succeed in dragging our country back to war. These unscrupulous politicians do not have the best interests of our civil population at heart.
We have been here before!
These leaders will incite us and take us into a situation we are not ready to handle. They end up making a deal for their personal gain and forget what they incited people for. In the end, history will not judge us as Individuals. The failure of our country will be the failure of this generation -including the Young. Allowing such negative propaganda to dominate our national discourse can only lead us deeper into the abyss. Let us ignore propaganda that will kill us. Instead, let us be solution-oriented when we are pointing out our problems -otherwise it is another futile attempt at regime change. Which is total mischief!
You will hear from us!
