By Ariik Kuol Ariik Mawien, Juba, South Sudan,
June 28, 2021 — A man left out of Police General Promotions with Post Graduate Diploma and bachelor’s degree. It’s really a great crime to faithfully serve the government without Big Uncle behind me in the government. I’m proud to be SGT for 09 years since 01/06/2012.
This was the day, Gen. Achuil Tito Madut, the IGP by then and Hon. Alison Manani Magaya, the Minister of Interior at the time, approved the appointment of 352 Technical Sergeants (T/SGTs) to establish the Biometric Electronic System at the Directorate of Nationality, Passports & Immigration (DNPI). The Directorate was later upgraded into the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports & Immigration (DCRNPI).
Let me cite my BOSS here as a good and convincing example of change and progress, my current IGP was a Lt. Col and was heading the Department of Immigration within the DNPI at the time of my appointment as one of 352 Technical Sergeants. Now, he has successfully passed 05 promotions from Lt. Col to a Police Officer IGP in less than 02 years’ time.
What make him successful is what we do down here as NCOs. Even the shapes of Jebels Kujur, Lado and Luri have never been the same after Juba became a capital city with multiple developmental projects that needs stone’s gravels and aggregates for concrete foundations. What crime have I committed against my Country to remain stagnant in a Junior Rank of Technical Sergeant for too long?
Some of my colleagues recruited after me in 2013, 2014 and 2020 have finally made their way today to 2nd. Lts, 1st. Lts, Capts and Majors. Congratulations to you my colleagues, I hope you’ll not blame me of any failure in progressing into another Police rank. I did my part Academically, but I’m lacking someone to validate my Documents.
The worst part, I’m still not a senior NCO in the Police. I’m acting waiting for their children who are still breast feeding to take up their positions as Officers when the grow up to the age of 12 years. It works more better when your Big Uncle present you instead of valid Certificates for reference.
I believe today, Certificates doesn’t work in absence of a BIG man speaking on your behalf. But a Big man’s presence possibly works in absence of Certificates. Also, there are many roadblocks to Cadets in Rajaf and Agut-makur training fields. Even those who managed to joint Cadets in respective training fields are now affected by this unusual Hotel’s promotions, in terms of seniority.
After graduating, they will be subordinates and remains in a very submissive situations after a hard and a lengthy period of struggle in the fields. Imagine, how regretful it is to salute an Officer who have recently graduated from a family Police College. Now, I’m not part of 7000 newly commissioned Officers.
May Peace, Equality and Justice be upon this Country. God help my leaders to change their hearts and ways of doing things. I know, not all of them can do this, but few people tasked with public responsibility are abusing their mandates by promoting their family members. I love you South Sudan and my beloved citizens. I will never turn blind eyes against you as tool for seeking Justice, trust me and God is my witness.
