Dec 2nd, 2021 — I personally condemned the killing of at least two women and one girl, who are confirmed dead, and two other young girls who are confirmed to have been abducted. While 18 women have been successfully recovered by the Lou-Nuer white army, several others are still missing.
The attack happened on the 1st of Dec 2021 between GierGalieh and Buong Payam in Akobo County, Jonglei State, when hundreds armed youth, who are suspected to be Murle ambushed over 20 women who were coming from fishing site in GierGalieh where some men had gone there for fishing. This is not the first time that Murle armed youths attacked innocent Lou Nuer Community, the recent attacks mounted on Lou Nuer by suspected Murle armed youths from Pibor Administrative Area caused more than 75 lives in greater Lou Nuer area during peace initiative.
The Peace Initiative Approach for Greater Jonglei and Pibor Administrative Area was initiated by Hon Denay Jok Chagor, the governor of Jonglei State which was meant to help community in Greater Jonglei to begin to enjoy a moment of peace and tranquility but Murle youths continued to attack while Lou-Nuer who are taking the initiative as an important tool for sustainable peace, development and community prosperous.
Lou Nuer community accepted this unconditional Peace with their hearts that is why there was no single report of attack carried out by Lou Nuer youth since the time Jonglei State and Pibor Administrative Area peace was initiated but youths from Pibor seem to be taking this peace for granted and are using it to launch unprovocative attacks on innocent civilians.
As the citizen in Jonglei State I called upon our people, youths, intellectuals and leaders to take the initiative in your respective localities so that community don’t drag themselves into this senseless war again.
The biggest roles is from Murle community whose youths seem to not understand the important of peace. The Law should be applied by competent authority in Pibor Area so that Greater Jonglei and Pibor Administrative Area enjoy this peace.
I personally condemned this attack seriously. My heartfelt condolence to the families, relatives, friends and colleagues of the lost ones.
