By Hon. Anter Bayak kuol,
May 09, 2022 — I strongly condemn in the strongest terms possible the latest attack carried out by the Suspected Murle criminal (GPAA) on the innocent cattle keepers, In which (14) innocent lives were lost and (10)seriously wounded as the results of the cattle raid.
On March 7th, 2022 at around 12:00 PM, Murle criminals attacked Pangonkuei cattle camp in Duk Padiet Payam raiding over 2,000 cattle. Youth pursued the raiders with serious fighting, scattered them and recovered all the cattle at around 6:00 PM, approximately seven hours of serious fighting.
This behavior has been against the spirit of peace desired by the communities in greater Jonglei. Every year, destruction continues. The International Communities are aware of the Murle’s several attacks as they have been reported and documented. The wounded victims are usually treated by international NGOs. The victims all times include vulnerable people because the Murle attacks and fire indiscriminately at nights.
The Murle has been attacking our communities for several years but we leaders and elders have been discouraging our youth from retaliating with the hope that the Murle leaders and elders will do the same. Unfortunately the still encouraging their youth to continue with the same behavior, child abduction and Cattle raiding, the has been doing this for years against other communities, Murle now on offensive against the Dinka Duk and Jongle State at large.
If the Murle community failed to stop this behavior, the government and the international community should take serious action against them. The rest of the South Sudanese desire for peace, Murle must be stopped. We, the Duk community and Jonglei at large, want to be at peace with our neighboring Communities including the Murle. We request the government and international to intervene and solve this Murle problem one and for all.
Sincerely,
Hon. Anter Bayak kuol,
Member of Parliament (Mp),
Jongle State Transitional legislation Assembly, JSTLA.
Republic of South sudan, Duk-padiet.
