December 19, 2021 — On behalf of the Dec 15th Memorial Consultant Team and myself, I would like to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure that the 8th Annual Commemoration event of the December 15th Genocide is both virtually and physically hosted on time.

For those who are constantly unaware of the event, the December 15th Memorial Consultant Team is a group of patriotic South Sudanese youth, who have volunteered their time and resources since August 2014, to carry out the December 15th Memorial’s preparation awareness, both locally and internationally through the use of social media outlets.

The Vision and Mission of the Dec 15th Memorial Consultant Team are to ENSURE that the December 15th genocide is  incorporated, reflected and assented in The Republic of South Sudans NATIONAL CONSTITUTION to making it a national Holiday that shall always be Commemorated annually. As the country is in the process of reconciliation and healing from the 15th December, 2013 war trauma, recognizing this as a NATIONAL HOLIDAY shall carry a weight on consolidating the well fractured LOVE and UNITY of the people of South Sudan for a prosperous South Sudanese society through a whole hearted healing and forgiveness, a reference of which Rwandas 1994 Genocide would be made the least to look back for a brighter South Sudan.  The victims of December 15, 2013 are always looking down at us, and they were our children, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and indeed elderly. They innocently died in cold blood under a tribal name, which they didn’t know about, and truckloads of their bodies were dumped in the rivers for fishes, crocodiles and wild beasts to feed on. Their demise MUST always be remembered. This day will not only mourn and commemorate the death of the December 15th, 2013 massacre, but also those who subsequently died following the incident, either through revenge killings or other war related causes.

To the persons reading this message, thank you so much for assisting in spreading this message to all the concerned individuals, who tirelessly contributed to the annual Commemoration event of the Dec 15th Genocide. It would not have been possible to host it for the past eight years without your tireless efforts and commitment. Thank you so much!

THE MEMORIAL’S PLANS FOR 2022 AND BEYOND

  1. The Dec 15th Memorial Consultant Team intends to better organize both the global coordination of memorial messages and the Program organizational setting. We will improve communication with South Sudanese Communities in support of the team’s Vision and Mission.
  2. Beginning in 2022, the December 15th Memorial Team will introduce and adopt a new unified memorial color to substitute the current black Memorial T-Shirt. This is a technique for breaking free from the belief that BLACK is a symbol of sorrow.

Compatriots South Sudanese, you may have noticed that some of our leaders who had previously written Commemoration statements about the Dec 15th victims are no longer present at this year’s Memorial.

According to many observers, the new paid positions have elevated them to the point where they have forgotten that the International Community had  forced the regime to accept political accommodation due to the December 15th  AGENDA. Eliminating tribal tendencies, South Sudanese YOUTH must collectively take note that they shouldn’t be hired any further to fight against those who haven’t wrong them and that the country and its future belongs to them. SOUTH SUDANESE YOUTH MUST UNITE!

Finally, I would like to remind you that you shouldn’t be concerned with what Politicians do; just do your little bit of effort where you are, and I’ll do mine; it’s the combination of those little bits of effort that will bring JUSTICE for our loved ones who died in tragedy.

“IN WORD AND IN ACTION, WE’LL NEVER FORGET DECEMBER 15TH GENOCIDE”, Not because the relatives of the victims want to revenge, but because they want to ensure that there would be “NO RECURRENCE” of a similar inhumane act.
