July 20th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Zambian President, Edgar Chagwa, has lauded his Sudanese counterpart President Omar Al-Bashir for taking the helm to mediate between South Sudan’s two rivals, President Salva Kiir, and opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar.
His remarks came as the Sudanese vice president, Hasabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman visit the Zambian capital Lusaka as apart efforts by the Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir to extend ties with west African countries.
He expressed his optimism for the proposaed power sharing agreement by the Sudanese mediation between South Sudan parties saying once the proposal is signed, it will bring peace to South Sudan and restore stability.
For his part, the Sudanese vice president praised his leader, Omar Al-Bashir, for his success in bringing the South Sudanese foes together for the benefit of their war-torn country and their suffering citizens.
“President Omar Al-Bashir remains resolute to mediating peace talks in the neighboring South Sudan. He has managed to bring the two leaders in the south to the round table and signed the power sharing agreement which is recommendable since war is retrogressive,” he said in a join statement to journalists.
South Sudan descended into civil war in 2013 after a national convention for the ruling party, SPLM, turned violence leading to an ethnic killings in the national capital, Juba, sparking the ongoing civil war.
