Lusaka, Zambia
August 16, 2021—Zambia’s electoral commission has confirmed that the presidential election was won by Hakainde Hichilema, the opposition candidate of Zambia.
Mr Hichilema defeated his opponent, the outgoing President Edgar Lungu, by more than a million votes.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Hichilema who ran more than five times has won presidential race at last in Zambia, defeating his long time rival president Edgar Lungu.
The outgoing president, Lungu says that the elections were not credible claiming that the election officials from his party were forced out from polling stations leaving votes unprotected.
“But Mr Hichilema’s United Party for National Development said the statement was the “desperate final act of an outgoing administration”, the statement reads.
According to the statement, the electoral commission in its final tally said Mr Hichilema had won 2,810,777 votes versus Mr Lungu’s 1,814,201 in Thursday’s election and the total registered votes were at least seven million.
The landslide win means Mr Hichilema will not have to fight a run-off contest.
“I therefore declare that the said Hichilema to be president of Zambia,” Chairman of the electoral commission quoted by BBC to have announced.
