July 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A young man who was among 30 others who had been detained by the South Sudan National Security Service on the accusation that they support the former SPLA Chief of General Staff Gen. Paul Malong Awan has gone mad one week after having been released from the National Security detention in Juba.
Early this month, a group of young men from the northern Bhar Al-Ghazal States, Aweil, has been arrested most of them at the Juba international airports on the allegations that they support Malong who is also from Northern Bhar Al-Ghazal.
Sources told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon that about 15 of those who were arrested had been released by the National Security Service last week and one of them had gone mad due to the experience during the detention.
One of the sources said that the victim of the detention had gone mad for about four days now and that he has been going naked for the same period saying the former had been tortured by the security agents.
“One of the youths who has been detained by the regime’s national security had gone mad. He has been mad for four days and has been going naked on the same period of time now,” the source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.
Another source named the victim as Garang Dut and said he was working a a hawker at the Juba international airport selling cigarettes, sweets among others prior to his detention by the national security.
“The man that went mad is called Garang. Garang was a young businessman (hawker) at Juba International Airport, selling cigarettes, sweets, biscuits and other small items for a living before he was arrested on the 6th of July and spent two weeks in custody,” the source said.
The source said Garang was initially violent and later went silent and can not talk to his relative. He said his relatives tied him up and took him to the hospital to treat the wounds he encountered during the detention.
“Garang was violent at the beginning and unwilling to talk to his relatives who later tied him up and taken him to hospital were his body wounds (Including severely swelled Tip of his manhood) which was almost healing is being re-treated,” the source further added.
