August 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia)The World Health Organization (WHO) with support from Gavi, a global health partnership organization, has donated Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) equipment to South Sudan’s Ministry of Health.

The donated items include different types of ICT devices that will be distributed equally to major parts of the country, in an effort to enhance health care services and most importantly to meet the health needs of the population throughout South Sudan.

The donation to the Ministry of Health includes 33 desktop computers, 34 all-in-one printers (printer, scanner and copier), 7 laptops and carrying cases, 7 docking pack and 40 (1TB) external hard drive will be distributed to the national monitoring and evaluation office, the 32 states, and Abyei Administrative area of South Sudan,” said the World Health Organization.

WHO Representative Dr. Olushayo Olu, stressed the importance of improving health information system, saying it helps healthcare providers make an informed decision when prioritizing and determining needs.

Strengthening health information system is vital to enable decision-makers at all levels of the health system to identify problems/needs and make evidence-based decisions,” said Dr. Olushayo.

Lack of ICT equipment is one of the challenges that undermines and threatens the country’s health information system and makes it difficult for health care providers to conduct evidence-based practice (EBP).
