The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Presidential Affairs Nhial Deng Nhial

In a statement shared by the office of the president, the governor said that his state is calm with only minor criminal cases that are handled by the local security.

“While speaking to the media after the meeting, Governor Bona Panek Biar said that the security situation of warrap State is generally calm and stable with only minor criminal cases which are being handled by his State authority,” The statement read.

Warrap state has been experiencing violence most of which are tribal clashes brought about by revenge attacks as well as clashes between members of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces and Civilians. These clashes have left many people dead and a lot others injured.

In July, the government began the disarmament of civilians exercise as part of the most peace agreement signed between South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and rival Riek Machar.

The process was not received well by the residents with most of the refusing to hand over their guns.

In August, James Mabior Makuei, the councillor of Tonj East County in Warrap State, told dpa news agency that most of the recent violence began when civilians refused to hand over their guns to soldiers at a market in Tonj East.

Those clashes forced the UN to establish a temporary base, began patrolling as well as held numerous meetings with local authorities, high-ranking military officers, community leaders and youth in Tonj town, Ameth and Mabior-Yar to support reconciliation efforts.

According to Governor Bona Panek Biar, calm has already been restored in the area.
