Deng, who was recently dismissed as State Minister of Trade and Industry in Warrap State, said on Wednesday at a press conference that he is developing interest in the state’s top seat.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Deng said the current political situation in the state was due to the poor leadership and a lack of developmental initiatives which has forced him to lobby for the top position to save his state.

“I professionally declare myself for the governorship position in Warrap State, to be the people’s governor, The reason for the decision is that I have been in the state for four years working in various positions under different governors but I have seen that most of them have not presented very good or accurate developmental projects for the state.”, Deng said.

The aspiring official added that there are no reforms that have been made until now and this lack of development has motivated him to see himself as an alternative for the position.

“So, I am now officially a candidate looking for that position.”, Deng, declared.

Dr. Deng promised to work hard if appointed to the position, saying he will make sure that better security is among first priorities so that the other developmental projects can follow.

“I have clear developmental programs that if I am brought in as governor, I can be able to reform or change the state in terms of development and security,” promised Dr. Deng.

He knows that the political atmosphere is not conducive for elections in the country at the moment but said he can embark on serious lobbying so that he gets appointed though presidential decree.

“As of now, there are no elections but the normal procedures that we follow is that you have to lobby. I know many people have decided to move at night seeking for the same position but I have decided to come out openly to the public so that they know that I don’t want to steal their position, “I want the position officially, I want their endorsement. I want the people to support me. So, I have to lobby through people so that they can take my message to the appointing authority.”, he explained.

Dr. Deng commends the current governor, Gen. Aleu, and said he had done his part and his best but what he has done is “not enough”, something that may have contributed to his firing .

“I want to appreciate Governor Aleu. He did his part and he has tried his best to do something but it is not enough. The state government has failed to address the issue of insecurity and institute developmental projects. If given the opportunity, I can address those issues,” Dr. Deng said.

Dr. Anthony Jong Deng was relieved from his ministerial position by the state governor on 24th of November and is currently a lecturer of veterinary science at the University of Bahr el Ghazal.

Until his sacking, Deng held different positions in the state leadership.
