March 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) said on Wednesday that there has been a reduction of violence in South Sudan’s Yei River state which continued to witness fighting between government and holdout opposition groups following the signing of the revitalized peace agreement in September last year.

The Chairperson of the CTSAMVM, Maj. Gen. Desta Abiche Ageno, said during a opening statement of the ninth meeting of the body’s technical committee in Juba on Wednesday that tensions has however started to build in Wau state which has witnessed civilian targeting in recent days.

“Since last meeting, the ceasefire continues to hold. There has been a reduction in violence in Yei area although there are still occasional clashes between parties and NAS (TC),” Gen. Abiche said.

“Tensions are building up in Wau due to cattle migration. Looting, ambush, and other forms of crime are still rampant,” he added pointing out “Accountability for violations is not seen yet.”

Gen. Abiche further said forces from the signatories of the revitalized peace agreement have started to assemble in a reads designated for them adding that internally displaced persons (IDPs) have started to return home in some areas.

“Cantonment sites have been agreed and troops begin to assemble in some areas, but more coordination is needed. IDPs have started to return in some areas,” he added.
