In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia on Tuesday Vice President Taban appoints Kawaja Kau Madol as the new Press Secretary filling a position that was vacated by Agel Machar on February 22, 2022.

“After consulting more extensively on your suitability for employment, I hereby approve your appointment as Press Secretary at grade: 1” Vice President for Infrastructure stated in a short letter obtained by Nyamilepedia.

The Vice President said the appointment is effective from the date of signing this letter and entitled the newly appointed spokesperson as the Director of Press and Media whose role is to oversee and supervise the media work.

“.. The appointment is effective from the date of signing of this letter. In this role, you will be the Director of Press and Media in the Office of the Vice President.”

Hon. Taban added that the new Press Secretary’s job description that set out full duties and responsibilities shall be printed out in no time and will be signed by Mr. Kawaja to demonstrate that he has understood it and will be adhered to at  all times.

In February 20220, Agel Ring Machar resigned from Press Secretary Office of the First Vice President, which was held by then by Gen. Taban Deng Gai, few days before the new FVP Dr. Riek Machar Teny was appointed citing the need for change of guards in the presidency.

It remains unclear why Gen. Taban did not appoint a Press Secretary for the last two years and only now that the peace agreement is almost coming to an end.
