Sep 27, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — One of South Sudan’s five vice presidents, Hussein Abdelbaggi Akol Ayii, has returned to the capital, Juba, today following weeks of hospitalization and recuperation in the neighboring Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Hon. Akol was received by more than 200 officials, relatives and members of muslim community at the airport.
A bull was also slaughtered at his residence for a mini homecoming ceremony celebrating his recovery.
“Vice President Hussein Abdelbaki Akol arrives at Juba International Airport coming from Kenya this afternoon.” His party official spokesman, Steven Lual announced on social media.
The former rebel leader, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of South Sudan Patriotic Movement, was rushed to Nairobi-Kenya at the beginning of the month after suffering a heart complication and high-blood pressure which are also systompts of COVID-19
According to his medical experts, the Vice president has known cardiac arrest related events before and high-blood pressure.
Speaking to the media after Hussein Abdelbagi’s arrival at the airport, Ayaga Garang Deng, the Executive Director in the office of the Vice President, said Hon. Abdelbagi travelled to Kenya to be attended to by “his doctor” and now he has returned to resume his duties.
“His Excellency the Vice President Hussein Abdelbaki Ayii has travelled to Nairobi, Kenya, on a private trip where he was attended to by his doctor. It is well. He has been attended to, he is find. He is stable at his condition, he is fit” Ayaga said.
“He just came back to resume his duties” he continued.
According to Ayaga Garang Deng, Abdelbagi was briefed by South Sudan Ambassador to Kenya Amb. Chol Mawut who confirmed to him that the bilateral relations between South Sudan and Kenya are stable.
“He was briefed by South Sudan ambassador to Kenya His excellency Ambassador Chol Mawut. He briefed him on the states of affairs between South Sudan and Kenya which are quiet stable” Ayaga said.
Hussein Abdelbagi, who is new to South Sudan’s political arena, grew up in Sudan where his father did lucrative businesses. He is the first South Sudanese practicing muslim politician to hold the position of the Vice President.
Based on the R-ARCISS power sharing, Hussein is the Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan for services cluster.
