January 10, 2022— The Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof. John Akech clarifies why some students could be discontinued from their studies as the top university in the country is promising to improve its academic standards, something that has been sharply criticized by academicians and students over the past few years on social media.
In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, Prof. Akech boldly stands to defend why those students who do not meet good academic standings should be discontinued from their studies at the University of Juba or else they must repeat classes to improve their CGPA before getting promoted.
“If your Cumulative Great Point Average (CGPA) is equal or above a cutoff point, you are promoted to the next class, irrespective of number of subjects you failed”, Prof. Akech stated in a brief statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.
According to Akech, If your CGPA is below the cutoff CGPA, you must repeat the year by retaking only the subjects you have failed.
“All students are entitled to repeat the same year only once. If you failed to move to next class for a second time, you are discontinued”,he added.
Prof. Akech says anyone who fails to move to the next year for the first time in the same year and has been discontinued is entitled to repeat.
He also apologizes for the inconveniences that might have been caused by his actions in ensuring quality education in the country.
“Apologies for any distress. No intentions but I only want you developed with quality education. Wishing you all the best”, he further elaborated.
Last year, Prof. John Akec pledged to open new faculties and expand the University across the country.
