June 7th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The venue and the date for the planned face-to-face meeting between two rival South Sudanese leaders, President Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar, is still unclear although different news media have reported different venues for the highly expected meeting.
On Tuesday, the Sudan Tribune and the Radio Tamazuj reported, quoting the Sudanese Foreign Minister who visited Juba on Tuesday, that the planned face-to-face meeting between South Sudanese president Salva Kiir Mayardiit and prominent and SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar will take place in Khartoum.
However, based on the Nyamilepedia version of the press statement made by the Sudan’s foreign minister while in Juba, the pledge by the Sudanese president to host the Machar, Kiir talks was just a request which is not yet endorsed by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and Machar’s SPLM-IO which was surprised by the said venue.
SPLM-IO in a statement on Wednesday said they were not aware of any initiative for the meeting to be held in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
For his part, President Kiir’s Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, said on Tuesday in Juba, ahead of the arrival of the Sudanese delegation to the South Sudanese capital, that the meeting will be held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa but did not provide a date for it.
On Tuesday, the Nyamilepedia reported, quoting two government officials, one in Juba and the other in Addis Ababa, that the meeting will take place in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott.
The IGAD mediation hasn’t yet came up with a official date and a venue for the planned face-to-face meeting between the two rivals and so, the venue and the date for Kiir and Machar’s meeting is still unclear.
