December 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States on Friday, imposed sanctions on a retired Israeli general after accusing him of supplying weapons and ammunition to government and rebel groups in South Sudan.

The United States Department of Treasury also imposed sanctions against former South Sudan governor  and another wealthy businessman for their role in the arm deals.

“While Ziv maintained the loyalty of senior Government of South Sudan officials through bribery and promises of security support, he has also reportedly planned to organize attacks by mercenaries on South Sudanese oil fields and infrastructure, in an effort to create a problem that only his company and affiliates could solve,” it said.

The weapon trade, according to the United States, violates the interational sanctions already in place against the government of South Sudan.

According to the sanction, Gregory Vasili who is a former governor of Gogrial state, was identified as a deal broker between weapon companies and the South Sudan  government beside commanding a militia which was in conflict with another clan.

“As a result of today’s action, all property and interests in property of those designated by OFAC, that is in the United States or the possession or control of a U.S. person, must be blocked and reported to OFAC,” the State Department said in the statement.

In July, an arms embargo was imposed on South Sudan which has been in a bloody conflict since 2013.
