August 27th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States government has said it will not remove Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism but will work to encourage support for the new government.

Sudan’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok said last week in an interview with Reuters that he started talks with the United States to remove the country from list of State Sponsor of Terrorism to which Sudan was added to in 1993.

Speaking to several international and US journalists, a state department official said the United States will not remove Sudan from the terror list but will encourage end of Sudan’s pariah status and mobilize international support.

“It will take a little bit of time to work through but we are committed to doing that,” the official said.

However, the US official said the designation of the country as one of states supporting terrorism, “is an obstacle right now.”
