July 10, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States of America has reiterated its support for the people and the implementation of South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement which ended the six-year-old civil war.

South Sudan on Thursday marked nine years since becoming independent from Sudan in 2011 following over two decades of war which has so far killed about 2.5 million people in the then Southern Sudan.

In a message of congratulations to the people of South Sudan, US secretary of state, Michael Pompeo, said the Trump administration will continue to support the government of South Sudan and will work with the government in Juba to achieve lasting peace in the world’s youngest country.

“On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of South Sudan as you mark nine years of independence. The United States continues to support the people of South Sudan in your pursuit of peace and stability,” said Pompeo.

“This year we are also proud to support your response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.  We are committed to working with the transitional government, a free civil society, and regional and international partners to build a lasting peace and greater prosperity in South Sudan,” he added.
