June 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States government said the ongoing crisis in Sudan shouldn’t affect the implementation of South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement signed last year.
The American Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Tibor Nagy, who visited Sudan last week says the US wants the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan not to be linked to the crisis in Sudan.
South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a revitalized peace agreement in September last year in Addis Ababa following months of negotiations in Khartoum hosted by then President Omar al-Bashir.
“We the international community need to make sure that the events in Sudan do not negatively impact on the ongoing peace processes in South Sudan,” he said.
“As a matter of fact, we disused with members of the government in Sudan, and with our partners who are following South Sudanese peace process,” he added.
