October 8th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States Embassy in the South Sudanese capital Juba has issued a security warning for its citizens in the capital Juba following a military standoff between political detainees and security elements at the national security headquarters in the capital Juba.
South Sudanese detainees on Sunday disarmed security guards on service at the national security headquarters in Juba taking control of the security facility for several hours before community leaders and senior government officials intervened.
In fear for its citizens in Juba, the United States Embassy in the South Sudanese capital issued a security warning telling its citizens of a possible security risk taking place in the area where the national security facility is located.
“Post has received reports of an armed standoff at a prison located within the National Security Services headquarters (known as the Blue House). We recommend that all U.S. citizens avoid this area (southwestern Juba) and the roads leading to it,” said a security warnig by the US embassy and seen by the Nyamilepedia.
The detainees who said they are fedup with a lengthy detention without trial were finally convinced by community leaders and senior government officials to surrender their guns back to the security and return to jail.
It is not clear what the terms of the agreement between them and the government over surrender of guns.
