Dec 09, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — Responding to earlier reports of fighting within Jekow, residents who have contacted Nyamilepedia clarify that the recent fighting did not escalate to Jekow as alleged.
The residents explained that the images circulated are of those of Nyoplew, a village of Chie-Waau which was burned down two days ago after a fighting ensued between the rival forces of the SPLA-IO and the SSPDF.
Nyoplew is a village along the Sobat river bank and it belongs to Chie-waau subclan.
A significant number of Chie-Wau are believe to have re-joined the government under the leadership of Gen. Ochan Puot.
It is not clear as who attacked who as both sides claimed to have been attacked by the other.
Despite the ceasefire agreement that has significantly hold elsewhere for almost one year, the recent defection of Gen. Ochan coupled with military activities in Maiwut State, Pagak and Nasir are instigating fear as situation remains volatile in this part of the country.
