August 22, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s minister of transport Madut Biar has arrived at the scene of today’s air crash in the capital Juba, two hours after the deadly crash occurred.

This morning, a South West Airlines plane heading to Wau, and then supposedly to Northern Bahr el Ghazal state capital Aweil crashed less than a minute after take-off from Juba International Airport killing all, but one, on board.

Speaking to journalists at the scene of the crash, Biar who was accompanied by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the South Sudan police service said firefighters could not carry out emergency operations because the area was swampy and could not be accessible by trucks.

“It was very impossible for firefighters and their cars to reach this place. As you can see, it is all water and swarm. So, it was very difficult for fighters to reach this place to carry out the badly needed emergency operations,” Madut said.

The senior government official further said he would open an investigation into the crash immediately and promised justice “if any mismanagement or wrongdoing is found by the investigators.”
