January 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A unnamed South Sudanese minister has been arrested and then released in the Ugandan capital Kampala after the police found him smoking Shisha, local media in Uganda have reported quoting a police spokesman.
The South Sudan minister was arrested on Saturday and was detained at Kabalangala police station in Central Kampala following his arrest in a bar.
He was arrested along with 17 others and was releases the following morning after he told police that he is a minister in South Sudan.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest on Sunday saying he only adentified himself after spending the whole night behind bar and he has so far been released.
“He (the minister) only identified himself in the morning during suspects’ parade. He has been released after establishing his particulars,” he said without identifying the minister.Â
Police raided Kampala Forest, De Posh and Savanah bars on Saturday evening where they arrested the suspects including the minister.
The Tobacco Control Act passed in 2015 by the Ugandan parliament entered into force in May 2016. At least three people have been convicted for smoking in public according to the Uganda Monitor.
