JUBA, South Sudan.
Nov 10, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– Authority in Torit and Juba have confirmed that on November 09, unidentified gunmen have killed at least one person and left six others wounded during an ambushed along Juba – Torit road on Tuesday evening.
The attack was launched on a football team traveling from Juba to Torit and despite a military escort, most of the players were injuried.
“The Escort-police team have managed to rescue many players (us) after long exchanging fire with the unknown gunmen for a period of time at the scene of crime,” an Eye witness, John Ohide, told Nyamilepedia press on phone.
While on behave of the Imatong State Football Association, Anthony Formato stated that armed unknown men did not pick their belongings after the incident took place.
“I am also shot by them and at moment I am recovering from my sustain-injury. I am receiving medication now,” Anthony said.
The Young Stars Torit was invited to come to play in Juba stadium over the weekend in which The Young Stars-Torit was beaten by Wau Al-Salam 3-0 on National tournament.
According to police authorities from Torit, “armed men hijacked a taxi Hiace” travelling on its way from Torit to Juba on Monday afternoon.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia press yesterday morning, Justine Kilopas, the Torit Acting police Chief Inspector said that “armed robber have taken along one passenger plus passenger’s luggage”.
Officer Kilopas added that the armed men, whom he identified as ‘unknown gunmen’ have taken the clothes which were put on by the passengers.
Police says “The unknown armed men stooped the taxi carrying fourteen passengers at Lolere area within Liria County in Jubek state, they prearranged the driver to drive inedible road into the bush”.
Juba – Torit road is becoming a death zone for passangers. Monthly killing of innocent civilians by unknown gunmen is on the rise.
The main factions, SPLA-IO and SPLA-IG, have failed to gain full control of the highways to protect civilians and traders as South Sudan security continue to deteriorate nationwide.
