Upper Nile State, South Sudan,
April 22, 2022 — The police in Upper Nile State’s Manyo County have revealed that seven people were killed and four others injured in an attack by unknown gunmen at a revenue collection point in the Malaha area.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, the Director of Police Kiir Diu Deng, said among those deceased are four revenue authority staff.
“Among the dead are four revenue employees, two soldiers from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces, and a Sudanese national” he said.
Deng stressed that a huge sum of money was looted in the attack.
He said the police have launched a search for the attackers while noting that the security situation in the county is stable.
For his part, the Paramount Chief of Manyo County, Ramadhan Yor, dubbed the incident as “unfortunate” and called on the government to conduct conclusive investigations, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.
Chief Yor said the Malaha border area between South Sudan’s Upper Nile State and the Sudanese White Nile State has not experienced such criminal acts.
