May 14, 2020 (Nyamilepedia)- The Unity state community in the neighboring Kenya has issued a statement mourning the Wednesday passing on of a highly respected military officer who passed away in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
General Liah Diu Deng, a senior member of South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) from the country’s Unity state passed away on Wednesday in Sudan while waiting for travel to Egypt for treatment.
In a statement on Thursday signed by its chairman, Dak Buoth Riek-Gaak, the Unity state community in Kenya (officially know as Liech Community Association in Kenya (LCAK)) said the “received the sad news of the passing on of one of our great Defenders, commander Liah Diu Deang with great shock and sorrow.”
“Lt. Gen. Liah Diu Deang spent most of his life in the cause of the South Sudanese Liberation struggles since the Anya’anya times. His untimely departure is a great lost for the struggling Liech community members and our nascent country South Sudan as a whole.
“Legendary commander Liah Diu Deang respectably known as ‘Gatdiu’ is one of the highly principled elder sons who had never wavered. He left legacy of an immense love and patriotism for the people of Liech community and the country of South Sudan that he selflessly and tirelessly worked for.
“Despite his departure at last through illness in Khartoum Sudan, we thank the Almighty God for saving his life in all the battles he spearheaded in defence of life and dignity. We shall do everything possible to honor his name as distinguish champion in Unity State and beyond.
“As we accept him to rest and join our revolutionary Ancestors such as Tito Biel Chuor Puot, Paulino Matip Nhial, Peter Gatdet Yakah and Vincent Kuany Latjor to mention but a few, we owe each other responsibility to bolster our zeal so as to accomplish the unfinished struggles for sustainable peace and security in South Sudan. Today we join the rest of the Liech communities worldwide in mourning the death of this great son of the soil.
“On behalf of the Liech community Association in Kenya and on my own behalf, I convey my sincere condolences to his family, relatives, and friends, entire Jikany Nuer, Greater Guit County and the South Sudan Presidency. The hero is gone and another hero shall be found, and may he rest in peace.”
