March 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior opposition official of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has said the revitalized unity government will not be in place by May 12th 2019.

South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to end the ongoing brutal five-year old conflict in the country which has killed thousands of people and displaced millions.

Speaking to the Eye Radio on Monday, Angelina Teny, the SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Security and Defense said all the pre-transitional activities supposed to be in place before the TGONU is formed are not ready.

“As per the agreement, the cantonment of forces was supposed to be completed within 45 days, which means almost towards the end of October of last year. We should have completed the cantonment, it did not happen,” she lamented.

Madam Teny who also chairs the Strategic Defense and Security Review Board – which is handling the security sector transformation and policy development to expedite the process of cantonment of forces as enshrined in the peace accord said it is likely that the government will not be in place in May.

“It has become very apparent that by May 12th, when R-TGoNU is supposed to be established, that deadline is going to be missed,” she added.
