United Kingdom gives South Sudan £18 million in aid

August 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The United Kingdom (UK) has announced a £18 million offer to South Sudan as the country continue to face humanitarian crisis as result of the ongoing civil war.

Speaking to journalists upon arrival in South Sudan capital Juba senior UK diplomat at the British Department for International Development (DFID), Andrew Stephenson stressed the need to help South Sudan’s suffering population.

South Sudan continues to face a man-made humanitarian crisis, here, live-saving supplies are kept and sorted before they’re being distributed to millions of people in need across the country,” Stephenson said Tuesday.

The British official said his government remains committed to working around the clock with the people of South Sudan to support vital operations in the country which has been in a bloody civil war since December 2013..

I am proud to announce that in the face of this ongoing crisis, UK Aid will provide an additional 18 million pounds to support vital operations in this 2019,” he said.

DFID is currently supporting a six-year humanitarian project known as Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience in South Sudan (HARISS) for 2015 – 2020. The programme is aimed at providing food, shelter and health services to millions of people around the country.
