January 24th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Ugandan government has turned down a request by South Sudan government for a $2 million loan, a senior government official from the ministry of information has said.

A foreign ministry official told the Nyamilepedia early this week that the government had made an official request for a loan to settle a dispute with a Saudi-based satellite service provider that threatened to shut down the country’s only TV station, the SSBC.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, the information ministry official who don’t want to be named said the government of Uganda has told the government of South Sudan that it will not be able to pay for the requested loan.

“The government of Uganda has said that they will not be able to pay for the loan requested,” the official said.

He said they wrote to the government saying they may only “contribute in part because they couldn’t pay the whole costs for the settlement with Arabsat.”
