June 18th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is opposed to the proposed face-to-face meeting that is expected to take place on Wednesday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa between South Sudanese President, Salva Kiir, and prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar, according to a message received by Kiir from his Ugandan counterparts, sources told the Nyamilepedia on Monday.

One source said the Ugandan leader wrote to President Kiir last week and assured him of his support for the South Sudanese government and the objection by his country to the face-to-face meeting to take place in any IGAD country including Uganda but preferred any other country outside the region.

“President Kiir received a message from his Ugandan colleague and brother H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni about the ongoing plan to face-to-face meet Machar in Addis Ababa. He assured us of his support and the government has made it very clear that we want the meeting outside Ethiopia and outside the region. Museveni agreed with the government and admitted that in fact the meeting should be conducted outside the region,” one source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.

Another source also said the government is yet to decide over the proposed meeting between President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar but said the government will possibly reject the conduct of the meeting in Addis Ababa.

“The government is still to sit and decide on the meeting but possibly the decision once taken will be no to the meeting in Addis Ababa and the region,” the source said.

The message was delivered to the South Sudanese leader by the Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, General Moses Ali who met the president at the State House J1 in the nation’s capital Juba last week.
