Nov 5, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The United States is deeply concerned by reports of fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray region and it is calling on the Ethiopian leaders to restore peace and stability.
In a statement released by the U.S. Department of State, and initialed by the U.S. Secretary of State Mike R. Pompeo, the United States regrets that the Tigray People’s Liberation Front(TPLF) carried out attacks on Ethiopian National Defense Force on Novemeber 3, 2020.
“The United States is deeply concerned by reports that the Tigray People’s Liberation Front carried out attacks on Ethiopian National Defense Force bases in Ethiopia’s Tigray region on November 3.” Part of the report reads.
“We are saddened by the tragic loss of life and urge immediate action to restore the peace and de-escalate tensions.” Hon. Mike Pompeo added.
The United States calls on the Ethiopian government to protect civilians and accord them security.
“The protection of civilian safety and security is essential. We will continue to follow this situation closely.” The U.S. Department of State stated.
The Secretary of States said the U.S. with stand with the people of Ethiopia and leaders who are willing to commit to peace, prosperity, democracy and justice.
“The United States stands with the people of Ethiopia and will work with all who are committed to peace, prosperity, democracy, and the rule of law.” The Secretary of State writes.
This comes at a time the U.S. is conducting a very competitive elections that is fitting President Donald Trump for the Republican against the former Vice President Joe Biden.
According to the polls, the American election, which is witnessing a very high turnout, is pretty much split between Trump and Biden that it is hard to declare a winner until all the voters are counted.
