
Wednesday, March 26, 2025(Nyamilepedia) — The United States of America and allies that include United Kingdom, Norway and Germany are evacuating staffs and urging citizens of their countries to stay away from South Sudan.
According to a statement released by the U.S Embassy in South Sudan, the world’s notorious youngest nation should not be a destination of choice for the Americans at the moment due to rising tension and a looming civil war.
“The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan is further reducing to minimal staffing for U.S. personnel in Juba due to continued security threats in South Sudan.” Reads part of the statement.
“ As advised on Travel.State.Gov, South Sudan is a level 4 do not travel country and we urge U.S. citizens currently in South Sudan to consider departing via commercial means while they are available.” The travel alert continues
The American embassy is strongly advising the citizens to leave but advise those who refuse to leave to prepare their contingency plans for emergency situations.
“We recommend that U.S. citizens who choose not to depart prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place should the situation deteriorate further.” The statement reads.
“The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan reminds U.S. citizens to ensure that their U.S. passports and passports of their family members are up to date and have more than 6 months validity. ” The alert continues
Countries like the UK issued similar warning and strongly advise the citizens to leave.
“The political and security situation remains unpredictable. Political tensions are high and the security situation across the country could deteriorate rapidly and unpredictably.” Reads part of the UK travel alert
“If the unstable security situation deteriorates, routes into and out of South Sudan may be blocked. Juba airport may close or be inaccessible. Flights may be cancelled at short notice.”
As of today, the British embassy significantly reduced its staffing and closed its consulate.
“As of 26 March, the number of British embassy staff in Juba has been temporarily reduced due to the risk of increased insecurity. The embassy remains open in order to carry out essential work but consular assistance to British nationals is severely limited in South Sudan. The British Embassy in South Sudan warns the citizens that whoever continue to stay in South Sudan would do so at their own risk.
“FCDO continues to advise against all travel to South Sudan. If you choose to remain in South Sudan, you do so at your own risk. You should have a personal emergency plan that does not rely on the UK government.” UK government warns
