December 28th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Two rival Unity state governors on Friday paid a join visit to the protection of civilians site in the state’s Rubkona town to enforce peace and reconciliation among the civilian population.
Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil, South Sudan’s governor of Northern Liech, and Brig. Gen. Tor Tungwar Kueiguong, SPLM-IO governor of Liech state were in the UN protection of civilian site in Rubkona according to several residents who spoke to the Nyamilepedia this afternoon.
“The two governors are here and they are telling us to reconcile and build peace not only among ourselves but with our neighbors,” one resident who identified himself as Angelo told the Nyamilepedia on phone from Rubkona.
Another resident said the two governor has asked them to leave the UN protection of civilians as peace has returned saying there is no any reason for the IDPs to stay behind because they are part of the peace deal.
“They said we must be out of the camp because we will be part of the peace implementation and confidence building process between South Sudanese people,” the source said on the condition of anonymity.
Under regional and international pressure, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed a peace deal in September in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the war.
The agreement in Addis Ababa followed months of intense negotiations among delegates of the government and opposition who must, by the time, sign a pact or face international or further regional isolation.
The government in late October conducted a peace celebration ceremony in the capital Juba and was attended by regional leaders as well as the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Machar.
